CAM CHAIN TENSIONER REMOVAL
Remove the mainshaft bearing retainer bo lts and bearing retainercam chain tensioner assemblyRemove the o.l pump (page 4-8) and cam chain slipper
INSPECTION
Camshaft
Using micrometer, measure the height of eacl, cam lobe and nspect it for wear or damage
SERVICE LIMITS: IN: 36.25 mm Il.427 in) EX: 36.10 mm 11.421 inl
Turn the camshaft bearing aliter rac with your
fingerThe bearing shoul'd be turn smoothly and qu ietlyAlso check that the bearing inner race fits tightly on the camsh aftReplace the camshaft as an assemblyif the raceS do not turn smoothlyquietlyor if [hey fit loosely on the camshaftCheck the decompressor cam operation Look at th :base of the exhaust lobePress on tl1e decompressor cam as shownAs you press On one side, the ciecompressor cam should lock above he exhaust baseAs you press on the other side, the de:ompressor lobe should be dep ressed below tha exhaust base
