M,ll.INTENANCE Visually inspect the drive chain for kinks or damageMeasure section of the drive chain to determine whether the drive chain is worn beyond its service limitRemove the drive chain and measure the distance between span of 95 (After '87: 91) pins from pin center to pin centerIn new chain, this distance will measure standard lengthIf the distance exceeds service limit, the drive chain is worn out and should be replaced(1) Measure span of the 95 (After '87: 91) pins

(1) WIPE DRY

Cle,1n the drive chain with small amount of kerosene or soapy water and wipe dry

(2) LUBRICATE SAE#80 OR SAE #90 GEAR OIL

CAUTION

Do not use steam cleaner, high pressure washers or aerosol chain lubricants as these will damage the O-ringsInspect the drive chain and a-rings for possible wear or damage Replace the chain, if it is worn excessively or damaged Lubricate the drive chain with SAE #80 or 90 gear oilInspect the sprocket teeth for excessive wear or damageReplace if necessaryNOT install new drive chain on worn sprockets or worn chain on new sprocketsBoth chain and sprockets must be in good condition, or the new replacement chain or sprockets will wear rapidly
