Place the ou tp ut gear case in vise with soh jaws or shop towelSet horizon al type dial indicator on the output drive shaft as shownHold the output dr iven gear shaft and rotate the drive shaft unti gear slack is taken up Turn the drive shaft back and forth to read back lash0.080- 0.180 mm (0.00310.0071 in) SERVICE LIM IT0.250 mm (0.0098 in) STANDARDRemove the dial indicatorTurn the outp ut drive shaft 120 and measure backlash Repeat this pro cedure once more Compare the ifference of the three measurementsDIF FE RENCE OF MEASUR EMENTS SERVICE LIMIT010 mm (0 .004 inIf the ifference in the meas rements exceeds the limitit indicat es tha the bearing is not installed square ly Inspect the bea rings nd replace if necessaryI back lash is excessive, replace the driven shaft adjustment shim with inner oneIf the backlash is too small, replace the driven shah adjustment sh im with th icker oneBacklash is changed by about 0.06 mm (0.002 in) when the thickness of the shim is changed by 010 mm (0004 in)OUTPUT DRIVEN GEAR SHAFT ADJUSTMENT SH IMS :
