Section 05 ELECTRICAL Subsection 05 (IGNITION SYSTEM)
NOTE: An ignition coil with good resistance measurement can still be faultyVoltage leak can occur at high voltage level which is not detectable with an ohmmeterReplacing the stick coil may be necessary as testFirst, check the ignition coil primary peak voltageRemove spark plugInsert pin into REDVIOLET wire location in ignition coil connector and connect multimeter probe to itPlace the other probe on the engineShift transmission into NEUTRAL and turn ignition switch ONThen, place the stop engine switch to RUN positionCrank engine few seconds and check the ignition coil primary peak voltageRepeat operation times and note the highest peak voltageThe ignition coil peak voltage should be around 12 VdcIf the peak voltage is lower than the specification, check the ignition coil resistanceIgnition Coil Resistance Disconnect both connectors from the ignition coilUsing multimeter, check the resistance in both primary and secondary windingsFor checking the resistance of primary windings, do as follows: Connect the RED (+) probe of multimeter to the WHITEGREEN wire location and BLACK (-) probe of multimeter to the REDVIOLET wire location the ignition coil
