Section 05 ELECTRICAL Subsection 05 (IG NITIO SYSTE M)
N TE: An ignition coil ith good resistance easure ent can still be faultyVoltage leak can occur at high voltage level hich is not detectable ith an ohm eterReplacing the ignition coil may be necessary as testPrim ary inding Disconnect the ire connector on the primary side of the ignition coilUsing multim eter, check the resistance bet en the terminal and the ignition coil body groundThe resistance should be bet en 0.8 and 1.2 at 20C (68F)If not ithin specification, replace the ignition coilIf the ignition coil test good, check the po er supply on the electronic moduleThere should be 12 Vdc betw een the RE DVIO LET and HITEGRE EN wiresIf there is no voltage, either the electronic module or the iring harness is defective
Secondary inding The output voltage should not be less than 12 kV (12 000 V)The ignition coil outlet caps and the spark plug caps include resistanceThey should be checked prior to replacing suspected ignition coilM easure resistance bet en ignition coil terminals and spark plug capsThe obtained value should be bet en and 14 KIf resistance is good, continue checkIf not, change spark plug wiresDY MIC TEST An ignition coil tester available from after-market toolequipm ent suppliers can be usedCAUTION: Do use coil tester on metal work benchFollo anufacturer instructionsIf the ignition coil is out of specification, replace itIf it tests good ensure the iring and connectors are in good condition then continue the next tests
