Section 06 DRIVE TRAIN Subsection 03 (REAR AXLE)
castellated nut no.11 flat washer no12Using the hub puller (PN 529 035 612), pull out hub no18 (with brake disc)
Unscrew all TORX screws no6 and no8 retaining axle housings no2 and no4 to differential
Disassembly
Ring Gear Removal To change ring gear no21: Unscrew the drain plug no22 and empty differential Unscrew the TORX screws no23, then separate half housings Extract ring gear out of half housingTo assembly, reverse the removal procedurePaying attention to the following detailsNOTE: If pinion gear, ring gear, housing or bearing is (are) changed, recenter the ring gear in the housing before final assemblySee Pinion Gear and Ring Gear Recentering belowVerify condition of half housing seal no24Change seal if necessaryCheck all bearings and all oil sealsChange them if necessaryPinion Gear Removal Unscrew bolt retaining the inserting tube to differentialRemove oil seal no25Unscrew the pinion nut no26Use the differential spanner socket (PN 529 035 649)Remove the bearing no27 at the same time as the pinion gear no28NOTE: The pinion gear and bearing can be easily removed using the following suggested tool: pipe 3-12 in diameter in (1) screwed rod M10 1.25, in length (1) nut M10 1.25 (3) flat bar (1)To install, reverse the removal procedurePaying attention to the following detailsCheck O-ring no29 for damageIf so, change itInstall the shim no30 then the ball bearingNOTE: If pinion gear, ring gear, housing or bearing is (are) changed, recenter the ring gear in the housing before final assemblySee belowInstall the nut and new oil seal
