Section 05 ELECTRICAL Subsection 05 (IGNITION SYSTEM)
Ignition Coil
NOTE: An ignition coil with good resistance measurement can still be faultyVoltage leak can occur at high voltage level which is not detectable with an ohmmeterReplacing the stick coil may be necessary as testFirst, check the ignition coil primary peak voltageDisconnect the ignition coil connectorCAUTION: Do not remove the ignition coil before disconnecting the connector, or the wires will be damagedDo not pry up ignition coil with screwdriver to avoid damageRemove spark plugInsert pin into WHITEGREEN wire location in ignition coil connector and connect multimeter probe to itPlace the other probe on the engineShift transmission into PARK or NEUTRAL and turn ignition switch ONCrank engine few seconds and check the ignition coil primary peak voltageRepeat operation times and note the highest peak voltageThe ignition coil peak voltage should be more than 80 VdcIf the peak voltage is lower than the specification, check the ignition coil resistanceIgnition Coil Resistance Using multimeter, check the resistance in both primary and secondary windings
