Section 08 SUSPENSION Subsection 02 (FRONT SUSPENSION)
Inspection
Check lower A-arm for cracks, distortion or other damagesReplace as requiredInspect pivot bushings for wear or damagesReplace pivot bushings if necessaryCheck ball joint bellows on lower A-arm for cracks or any other damage and inspect ball joint stud for damagesEnsure stud is moving freelyRefer to BALL JOINT section below
Torque wheel nuts to 52.5 Nm (39 lbfft) in crisscross sequenceGrease each A-arm pivot
BALL JOINT
Inspection
Upper Ball Joint Take the top of tire and check upper ball joint lateral play, by push and pullThe maximum lateral play should be 1.5 mm (.060 in)If the lateral play is out of specification, change the ball joints no13
Installation
For assembly, reverse the disassembly procedureHowever, pay attention to the followingPosition lower A-arm and install bolts no16 and nutsTorque nuts to 63 Nm (46 lbfft)Attach lower A-arm to knuckleInstall hardened washer no12 and castellated nut no11Tighten castle nut to 50 Nm (37 lbfft) and further tighten until its grooves align with cotter pin holeInstall new cotter pinBoth ends of cotter pins must be foldedInstall wheel(s)NOTE: Do not interchange left and right tiresCheck direction of rotation mark on tires
