Section 03 ENGINE Subsection 05 (CYLINDER AND HEAD)
Change valve if valve stem is out of specificationChange cylinder head if valve guides are out of specificationValve Face and Seat Check valve face and seat for burning, pitting and other signs of damageApply some lapping compound to valve face and work valve on its seat with lapping toolMeasure valve face contact widthNOTE: The location of contact area should be in center of valve faceMeasure valve seat width, using caliperVALVE SEAT CONTACT WIDTH mm (in) SERVICE LIMIT Exhaust Intake 1.8 mm (.07 in) 1.6 mm (.06 in)

Removal
Remove: cylinder head no4, if necessary NOTE: If the cylinder head does not have to be disassembled, do not separate cylinder head from cylinder water cooling hose from cylinder socket screws no27 retaining cylinder to the crankcase housingPull cylinder
Inspection
Cylinder Check cylinder for cracks, scoring, rust and wear ridges on the top and bottom of the cylinderCylinder Taper Measure cylinder diameter 16 mm (58 in) from top of cylinder then half-way through and finally at 13 mm (12 in) from bottom
