Section 05 ELECTRICAL Subsection 04 (STARTING SYSTEM)
STARTING SYSTEM TESTS
GENERAL
First ensure the problem is not related to engine mechanical componentsTry cranking the engine with the rewind starterIf it does not turn, perform the necessary repairOtherwise, test the starting systemCauses of troubles are not necessarily related to starter but may be due to burnt fuse (solenoids or MPEM) faulty battery, startstop switch, ignition switch, startstop switch, STPS (Sub-Transmission Position Sensor), starting solenoid, electrical cables or connections or the MPEMCheck these components before removing starterConsult also the Starting System Troubleshooting table above for general view of possible problems
STPS (Sub-Transmission Position Sensor)
Ensure the transmission lever is either in PARK or in NEUTRALTo quickly check the STPS, temporarily bypass it by pressing any brake lever and try to start engineIf engine turned, the STPS can be suspectedRefer to ELECTRIC SHIFT SYSTEM, section 05-06If it tests good, continue the other tests
