Correcting Backlash
NOTE: If backlash measurement is within the acceptable range, no correction is necessary
Measuring Connecting Rod (Small End Deflection)
1Place the crankshaft on set of V-blocks and mount dial indicator and base on the surface platePosition the indicator contact point against the center of the connecting rod small end journal2Zero the indicator and push the small end of the connecting rod away from the dial indicator3Maximum deflection must not exceed specifications
1If backlash measurement is less than specified, remove an existing shim, measure it, and install new thinner shim2If backlash measurement is more than specified, remove an existing shim, measure it, and install thicker shimNOTE: Continue to remove, measure, and install until backlash measurement is within toleranceNote the following chartBacklash Measurement
