Inspecting Camshaft Bearing Journal 1Inspect the bearing journal for scoring, seizure marks, or pitting2If excessive scoring, seizure marks, or pitting is found, the cylinder head assembly must be replaced
Measuring Camshaft to Cylinder Head Clearance
1Remove the adjuster screws and jam nutsCC390D
4If any measurement exceeds the limit, replace the cylinder and piston
Measuring Camshaft Runout
NOTE: If the camshaft is out of tolerance, it must be replaced
1Place the camshaft on set of blocks; then position the dial indicator contact point against the shaft and zero the indicatorCC005D
2Place strip of plasti-gauge in each of the camshaft lands in the cylinder head3Place the valve cover on the cylinder head and secure with the valve cover cap screwsTighten securelyNOTE: Do not rotate the camshaft when measuring clearance
