7Check for proper adjustment by applying the parking brake and attempting to move the vehicleThe vehicle should not move8If adjustment is correct, tighten the nut (B) securelyNOTE: If the parking brake cannot be "set-up" sufficiently to hold the rear axle, new brake pads must be installed (proceed to Replacing Brake Pads in this sub-section)
Inspecting and Measuring
1Inspect the pads for gouges, chips, or wear2Inspect the disc for gouges, grooves, cracks, and warpage3Using calipers, measure the thickness of each brake pad4If the thickness of either brake pad is less than 1.0 mm (0.039 in, the brake pads must be replacedNOTE: The brake pads should be replaced as set
CAUTION
If after adjusting the parking brake cable the parking brake will not hold the vehicle, the brake pads must be replaced
