Testing Engine Compression To test engine compression, use the following procedureNOTE: The engine should be warm (operating temperature) and the battery fully charged for an accurate compression testOn the XTXTX, throttle must be in the wide-open throttle (WOT) positionIn the event the engine can not be run, cold values are includedNOTE: The seats and center console must be removed for this procedure
NOTE: To service top-side components, see Section 3
7Pour approximately 30 ml (1 fl oz) of oil into the spark plug holes(s), reattach the gauge, and retest compression8If compression is now evident, service the piston rings (see Section 3)
Spark Plug(s)
A light brown insulator indicates that the plug is correctA white or dark insulator indicates that the engine may need to be servicedTo maintain hot, strong spark, keep the plug free of carbon
1Remove the high tension lead from the spark plug2Using compressed air, blow any debris from around the spark plug
! WARNING
Always wear safety glasses when using compressed air
