2Remove the cap screws securing the lower crankcase to the upper crankcase halves; then using rubber hammer, free the lower crankcase and removeAccount for two alignment pins
NOTE: Do not disassemble these assemblies unless service is requiredIf disassembled, secondary gear sets will have to be reset for backlash and gear contact (see Servicing Center Crankcase Components in this section)
4Remove one cap screw from the right-side crankcase and eight cap screws from the left-side crankcase; then using rubber mallet, separate the crankcase halves leaving all components in the right-side caseAccount for thrust washer on the crankshaft and flat washers on gear shift shaft, countershaft, and reverse idlerNote the location of two alignment pins
