6Apply grease to the pinion seal lips and install into the gear case until fully seated; then apply light coating of machinist's layout dye or paste to several ring gear teeth7Install the proper shims on the ring gear and install into the gear case; then install the case cover and secure with the case cap screwsTighten in crisscross pattern while rotating the pinion gearChecking Tooth Contact 1Rotate the ring gear several turns in either direction; then check gear contact through the oil filler hole2Examine the tooth contact pattern in the dye and compare the pattern to the illustrations
