INSPECTING MUFFLER NOTE: Whenever part is worn excessively, cracked, or damaged in any way, replacement is necessary
1Inspect muffler externally for cracks, holes, and dents2Inspect the muffler internally by shaking the muffler back and forth and listening for rattles or loose debris inside the mufflerNOTE: For details on cleaning the mufflerspark arrester, see Section 2CD691A
INSTALLING MUFFLER 1Place the muffler into position engaging the mounting lugs into the grommets; then slide the muffler forward2Install the two exhaust springs
3Remove two machine screws securing the tool tray4Disconnect the battery (negative cable first)NOTE: The battery does not have to be removed to remove the rear body panel
Rear Body PanelRack
REMOVING 1Remove four cap screws and flanged nuts securing the rear rack; then remove the shoulder screws and lock nutsRemove the rear rackAccount for the bushings
5Disconnect the taillightbrakelight; then remove the fuel tank cap and lift off the rear body panelInstall the fuel tank capNOTE: If the front body panel has not been removed, the left-side and right-side panels and the two machine screws must be removed (see Front Body PanelSide Panels in this section)
