iNOTE: To correct tooth contact, steps and (with NOTE) of "Correcting Backlash" must be followed and the above "Tooth ContactIShim Correction" chart must be consulted A CAUTION

After correcting tooth contact, backlash must again be checked and corrected (if necessary)Continue the correcting backlashcorrecting tooth contact procedures until they are both within tolerance values
CRANKSHAFT ASSEMBLY Measuring Connecting Rod (Small End Inside Diameter)
3Acceptable gap range must be within specifications
1Insert snap gauge into the upper connecting rod small end bore; then remove the gauge and measure it with micrometer
Measuring Connecting Rod (Big End Width)

1Using calipers, measure the width of the connecting rod at the big-end bearing2Acceptable width range must be within specificationsMeasuring Crankshaft (Runout)

1Place the crankshaft on set of blocks2Mount dial indicator and base on the surface platePosition the indicator contact at noint of the crankshaft
2Maximum diameter must not exceed specificationsMeasuring Connecting Rod (Small End Deflection) 1Place the crankshaft on set of V-blocks and mount dial indicator and base on the surface platePosition the indicator contact point against the center ofthe connecting rod small end journal2Zero the indicator and push the small end of the connecting rod away from the dial indicator
