Inspecting Camshaft Bearing Journal
1Inspect the bearing journal for scoring, seizure marks, or pitting2If excessive scoring, seizure marks, or pitting is found, the cylinder head assembly must be replacedMeasuring Camshaft to Cylinder Head Clearance
1Remove the adjuster screws and jam nuts
6If clearance is excessive, measure the journals of the camshaft
2Place strip of plasti-gauge in each of the camshaft lands in the cylinder head3Place the valve cover on the cylinder head and secure with the valve cover cap screwsTighten securelyINOTE: Do not rotate the camshaft when measuring clearanceINOTE: If the journals are worn, replace the camshaft; then measure the clearance againIf it is still out of tolerance, replace the cylinder headInspecting Camshaft SpringfDrive Pin
