! CAUTION If vise is used to secure the connecting rod it must have brass, copper, or hardwood jaws to prevent damage to the connecting rodNever use bench vise without jaw protection or severe damage to the connecting rod and engine will occur
NOTE: If the piston pin bushing is replaced, the lubrication hole must be aligned and the bushing sizedIt is recommended that only qualified machine shop replace bushings
21Examine the connecting rods for nicks, gouges, discoloration, and stress lines
18Tighten the connecting rod cap screws to 29 ft-lb
19Using an appropriate inside micrometer, measure the inside diameter of the connecting rod bearing insertIt must be within specifications or the bearings or connecting rod must be replaced
