NOTE: Planing the engine block is not recommended as it will directly affect piston-to-cylinder head clearanceTo determine if the cylinder deck can be planed, use the following procedureDE349
4Install main bearing caps into their appropriate saddles; then finger-tighten the cap screws
ADetermine the maximum cylinder deck variation (Vd)BAdd the deck variation (Vd) to the piston protrusion (Pp) determined during removing (VdPp) to determine final piston protrusion (Ppf)VdPpPpfCCompare the final piston protrusion (Ppf) to the chart to determine if gaskets are available that would allow planing of the cylinder deckFinal Piston Protrusion (Ppf) Gasket Thickness
