2Inspect all threaded areas for damage or stripped threads3Inspect the brush holder assembly and brushes for damage or wearUsing caliper, measure the length of the brushesIf brush measurement is less than 10.1 mm (0.40 in, replace with new brushes and brush springs as set4Inspect the brush leads for cracks, wear, or frayingIf any of these conditions exist, replace with new brushes and brush springs as set5Inspect the rear cover bushing for wear6Inspect the front cover bearing for wear7Inspect the brass commutator end of the armature for any discolored spots or damageIf the commutator is lightly discolored or damaged, the armature must be replacedThis is molded commutator and turning it down in lathe should not be attempted
10Remove the nut from the positive postAccount for the lock washer, flat washer, fiber washer, and an O-ring
