Disassembling Crankcase Half
NOTE: For steps 1-7, refer to illustration CC821B
Separating Crankcase Halves
1Remove the left-side cap screws securing the crankcase halvesNote the location of the different-lengthed cap screws2Remove the right-side cap screws securing the crankcase halvesNote the location of the different-lengthed cap screws3Using the Crankcase SeparatorCrankshaft Remover (pn 0444-009) and tapping lightly with rubber mallet, separate the crankcase halvesAccount for two alignment pinsNOTE: To keep the shaftgear assemblies intact for identification, tap the shafts toward the right-side crankcase half when separating the halves
