10Remove the nut from the positive postAccount for the lock washer, flat washer, fiber washer, and an O-ring 7Remove the rear cover8Slide the armature free of the starter housing
11Remove the positive brush assembly from the starter housing
9Bend the two positive brushes outward; then remove the brush holderCLEANING AND INSPECTING
1NOTE: Whenever part is worn excessively, cracked, or damaged in any way, replacement is necessary
1Thoroughly clean all components except the armature and brushes in parts-cleaning solvent; then dry with compressed airA CAUTION
