Measuring Valve Stem Outside Diameter
Measuring Valve GuideNaIve Stem Deflection (Wobble Method)
1Using micrometer, measure the valve stem outside diameter2Acceptable diameter range (intake valve) must be within specifications
1Mount dial indicator and base on the surface plate; then place the cylinder head on the surface plate2Install the valve into the cylinder head; then position the dial indicator contact point against the outside edge of the valve faceZero the indicator
3Acceptable diameter range (exhaust valve) must be within specificationsMeasuring Valve FaceISeat Width
1Using micrometer, measure the width of the valve face
3Push the valve from side to side; then from top to bottom
2Acceptable width range must be within specificationsMeasuring Valve Face Radial Runout
4Maximum "wobble" deflection must not exceed specificationsMeasuring Valve Guide (Inside Diameter)
