2Place the valve cover on the Surface Plate (pln 0644-016) covered with #400 grit wet-or-dry sandpaperUsing light pressure, move the valve cover in figure eight motionInspect the sealing surface for any indication of high spotsA high spot can be noted by bright metallic finishCorrect any high spots before assembly by continuing to move the valve cover in figure eight motion until uniform bright metallic finish is attained 2Remove the valve seal and the lower remaining spring seatDiscard the valve seal
surface or damage to the camshaft will resultAlways check camshaft clearance when resurfacing
A CAUTION
The valve seals must be replaced
Water or parts-cleaning solvent must be used in conjunction with the wet-or-dry sandpaper or damageto the sealing surface mayresult: -
