Measuring Valve GuideNalve Stem Deflection (Wobble Method)
1Mount dial indicator and base on the surface plate; then place the cylinder head on the surface plate2Install the valve into the cylinder head; then position the dial indicator contact point against the outside edge of the valve faceZero the indicator
2Using an appropriate reamer, remove any burrs or tight areas from the valve guide journals
3Push the valve from side to side; then from top to bottom4Maximum "wobble" deflection must not exceed specificationsMeasuring Valve Guide (Inside Diameter)
1Insert snap gauge 112 way down into each valve guide bore; then remove the gauge and measure it with micrometer2Acceptable inside diameter range must be within specifications3If valve guide is out of tolerance, it must be replaced
