Separating Crankcase Halves 1Remove the two cap screws securing the starter to the crankcase; then remove the starterAccount for the wiring forms and an O-ring2Remove the right-side cap screws securing the crankcase halvesNote the location of the capscrew with the copper washer
17Remove the screws securing the oil pump; then remove the pump
3Remove the left-side cap screws securing the crankcase halvesNote the location of the different-lengthed cap screws
W AT THIS POINT
To service center crankcase components only, proceed to Separating Crankcase Halves
4Using crankcase separator and tapping lightly with rubber mallet, separate the crankcase halvesAccount for two alignment pins and an O-ring and remove washer from the reverse shifting camI NOTE: To keep the shaftgear assemblies intact for identification, tap the shafts toward the right-side crankcase half when separating the halves
