4Slowly release the friction plate and lift the plate with ratchet guide free of the recoil case; then remove the ratchet guide from the friction plate
7Carefully lift the reel free of the case making sure the spiral spring does not accidentally disengage from the case
5Remove the spring cover, spring, and shaftCare must be taken when lifting the reel free of the caseWear safety glasses to avoid injury
8Remove the protective cover from the starter handle and pull the rope out of the handle; then untie the knot in the rope and remove the handle NOTE: Do not remove the spiral spring unless replacement is necessaryIt should be visually inspected in place to save timeIf replacement is necessary, follow steps 9-10
