INSPECTING
HosesThermostat
REMOVING

NOTE: Whenever part is worn excessively, cracked, or damaged in any way, replacement is necessary
1Drain the coolant from the cooling system2Remove the hose clamps securing the lower coolant hose to the water pump housing and to the radiator; then remove the lower hoseFig4-126

1Inspect the thermostat for corrosion, wear, or spring damage2Using the following procedure, inspect the thermostat for proper operationASuspend the thermostat in container filled with waterBHeat the water and monitor the temperature with thermometerCThe thermostat should start to open at 48.5-51.5C (119.3-124F)DIf the thermostat does not open, it must be replaced
3Inspect all coolant hoses, connections, and clamps for deterioration, cracks, and wearNOTE: All coolant hoses and clamps should be replaced every four years or 4000 milesCC334D
