1Drain the coolant2Remove the three cap screws securing the water pump caseNote the position of the long cap screw and account for the O-ring3Remove the impeller cap screw, washer, and gasket4Remove the mechanical seal using this procedureATap the tip of small sheet metal screw into the inner-metal edge of the sealBGrip the screw with pair of vise-grip pliers and pull the seal outAccount for the pump drive sealAF640D

CLEANING AND INSPECTING NOTE: Whenever part is worn excessively, cracked, or damaged in any way, replacement is necessary
3Place the fan blade with shaft pin onto the motor and secure with the left-hand-threaded nut (threads coated with blue Loctite #242) and washerTighten to 0.3 kg-m (2 ft-lb)Fig4-92

1Clean all pump components in solvent2Inspect the mechanical seal and pump drive seal for damageNOTE: If the mechanical seal andor pump drive seal are damaged, they must be replaced as set
